It’s December… and we all know what that means. When Fido comes in from the yard, he is no longer in the pristine condition you sent him out in. Oh, no. He’s covered from head to toe, er, paw, with mud and who knows what else. Bath time! This is how Teddy does his baths, and hopefully you can all take away a few tips from this!
Step 1: Get your dog wet. Always, always, ALWAYS use lukewarm water. Too hot, it burns your dog’s skin. Too cold, well… I’ve never met anyone, human or canine, who likes to take cold showers. Ick!
Step 2: Soap up! Adult human shampoo is too harsh on a dog’s skin, so make sure and use either dog shampoo or baby shampoo.
Step 3: Rinse!!! Kind of self explanatory, but this step is extra important because soap flakes left behind can cause itchy skin and dandruff.
(I know, same picture, but getting a dog wet and rinsing ARE technically the same thing.)
Step 4: Dry. Most people go for the vigorous rub with a towel, which is fine, but during colder months what I know Teddy loves can be another good thing to do: blow dry! If you choose to do this, make sure and keep it on a LOW setting, because too hot and, like hot water, it will burn your dog’s skin.
And that’s it! Your dog will be clean as a whistle… Until the next time he decides to go outside! 😉
